318 Algebra I
Students attending college should take Algebra in 8th or 9th grade. Topics covered are rules of algebra, equations, inequalities, graphing, functions, systems of equations, exponents, radicals, polynomials, and quadratics. Students will be expected to take notes in an organized manner. Quizzes will be given several times a week.
320 Geometry
Students taking geometry must have a strong foundation in algebra: the rules of algebra, signed numbers, equations, inequalities and graphs. Students should also have a good sense of formulas, functions, exponents and radicals. The sequence for math for a college-bound student should be Algebra I, Geometry, Algebra II, Math IV, Math V.
322 Algebra II
The intent of this course is to reinforce & extend concepts & skills learned in Algebra I and Geometry. A secondary goal is to aid students in moving toward more independent learning. Several main strands are interwoven throughout the material. Solving equations and inequalities, graphing solutions, applying geometry, and probability offer a variety of math experiences.
Prerequisite: Algebra I
340 Math IV
Topics covered in this course include linear relations and functions, trigonometry, vectors, parametric equations, advanced functions and graphs, discrete mathematics, and an introduction to the Calculus concepts and limits and derivatives.
Prerequisite: Algebra I, Algebra II, Geometry
350 Math V Calc
The topics covered in this course include analytic geometry, functions, limits, continuity of functions, derivatives & applications, maximum & minimum values of functions, curve sketching, integrals, definite integrals, hyperbolic functions, an introduction to differential equations. The use of a graphing calculator is stressed.
Prerequisite: Math IV
658 Personal Finance (1 semester)
Personal Finance is a blended learning course which teaches important life skills for students to digitally manage and organize their financial endeavors. Creating and maintaining digital bank accounts as well as career planning and exploration will occur. Students will use Career Cruising to determine potential salaries and expenses involved with careers of interest. Students will create futuristic budgets and other project based learning activities in order to prepare for financial success. Microsoft Excel in addition to Microsoft Word will be used along with multiple web 2.0 tools including Moodle, Socrative, edmodo, delicious, Quizlet, Google Drive/Docs, remind101, Timetoast, ExamView and more. The district will be using Microsoft Office 2013 to expose students to the most up-to-date version of software used in the business world. An online curriculum will be followed from a company which studies the trends and latest knowledge needed to keep up in the business world. Michigan Merit Curriculum requires an Online Learning Experience for graduation in the state of Michigan. This course will meet that requirement. This course meets the requirement of the fourth year math credit.
940 Accounting (1 semester)
Accounting students will use Microsoft Excel 2013 to learn the eight steps to completing the accounting cycle. Participants will journalize, post and complete transactions in order to prepare Income Statements, Balance Sheets and Statement of Cash Flows. This course's content is in iTunesU and includes an iBook that can be accessed on the school provided 1:1 iPads. This blended learning course will be using edmodo to communicate and discuss classroom accounting topics as well as other web 2.0 tools such as Quizlet, Google Drive/Docs, remindd101, Socrative and ExamView . Students will create actual financial documents in Microsoft Excel 2013 which will expose students to the most up-to-date version of software used in the business world. This class will help run the bookkeeping for the new school coffee shop & WiFi house. Class participants will also be running fundraisers to help earn money for the non-profit coffee shop & WiFi house business. Michigan Merit Curriculum requires an Online Learning Experience for graduation in the state of Michigan. This course will meet that requirement. This course meets the requirement of the fourth year math credit.
