AP Computer Science Principles
Code your own apps & games! AP® Computer Science Principles is a full-year, exciting, entry-level course that introduces students to the foundations of modern computing. This course covers programming, algorithms, the Internet, big data, digital privacy and security, and the societal impacts of computing. Students can choose to take the AP exam in the spring to earn college credit! The course will then be counted on a 5 point GPA scale. Michigan currently has 14,689 open computing jobs (4.1 times the average demand rate in MI). The average salary for a computing occupation in MI is $78,001, which is significantly higher than the average salary in the state ($46,310). Computers are EVERYWHERE! Take this incredible course to get an important skill that some say is as important as knowing how to read!
901 DT-21 - Digital Technologies in the 21st Century - Formerly Microsoft & Advanced Microsoft Applications (1 Credit/2 Semesters)
Technology is used in every profession. Digital Literacy is becoming as important as reading in today's society! This updated course is the first step to gaining essential knowledge needed to use technology correctly to be sure students are ready for the vast digital world in which they live. DT-21 is an excellent blended learning technology course which uses various new web tools to promote collaboration in the classroom and on the world wide web. Students learn improved communication skills including proper use of social media tools and digital citizenship. Students will begin their journey to creating a positive digital footprint which employers now claim is a TOP trait when accepting applications for jobs! Experts now believe, "everyone should be technology literate coming out of high school no matter where they end up." Students in DT-21 will also learn easy ways to complete proper MLA document citations for their English courses. Students will be able to create impressive presentations in numerous formats, learn to use technology to improve ACT test scores and make informed career choices and much, much more. In addition to the basics, this course also gives exposure to coding - an important skill that is gaining momentum as a subject that should be required in high school. Extensive project based learning is used in the online environment and universal design for learning allows students multiple attempts on assessments. This course will integrate student 1:1 school assigned iPads into the curriculum.

930 Multimedia Applications (1 Credit - 2 semesters)
Multimedia is an exciting and trending blended learning technology course in which students can learn to create fabulous multimedia presentations using advanced technology in photography, music and video. Students will create their own YouTube channels in which presentations will be published to the world and on their own Weebly website created in class. This establishes an oh so important digital footprint of which they can show college representatives, potential employers and more. Various formats and platforms will be used and students will be savvy at creating multimedia presentations in both a Mac and Windows environment. Students will also use their 1:1 school assigned iPads to create presentations and integrate mobile technology into presentations on desktop computers. Students will be involved in comprising impelling and informative videos for the district that will be published on the school web site as well as a video yearbook. This course creates the Knighly News as well! Digital citizenship and creating a digital footprint will be covered in class to be sure students are ready for the vast digital world in which they live. Extensive project based learning is used in the online environment and universal design for learning allows students multiple attempts on assessments. Tools in this curriculum will include iMovie, Garage Band, iPhoto, MailChimp, Windows Movie Maker, FotoFusion, Moodle, Gmail, Google Drive/Docs, Dropbox, edmodo, socrative, quizlet, delicious, VoiceThread, paper.li, remind101 and much more (See the Multimedia page on the Mrs. Leiker's web page for more details).

3622 Technology Integration & Application (1 Credit - 2 Semesters; up to 2 Credits can be earned)
This exciting new course will take interested technology students to the next level. In addition to completing a stimulating quick set of lessons in an online curriculum of technology troubleshooting, integration and application models, students will be getting experience helping to run the onsite help desk and Knights coffee shop to answer questions regarding technology from other students and teachers. In addition, students will be facilitating with the iPad distribution and maintenance of our 1:1 district. They will also be instructing via screencast models on the school YouTube channel. Upon successful completion of this course, students will receive a recommendation for technology related scholarships and post-secondary technology degrees. This course is worth 1 credit per year (.5 credit per semester) and can be taken for 2 years.

Peer to peer Course Credit Programs represents one model of 21st Century instructional design that incorporates applied (experiential) learning in a non-traditional manner. A peer to peer program is a strategy for providing ongoing support and modeling from one non-disabled pupil to a pupil with an individualized education program (IEP). It encompasses both the academic and social domains.
