Graduation Requirements for Michigan
The Michigan Merit Curriculum requires all students to take the following classes in order to graduate with a state endorsed diploma:
Norway High School requires 24.5 credits earned during 9th to 12th grade for graduation.
- 4 credits of High School English Language Arts
- 3 credits of High School Science, including Biology and either Chemistry or Physics. Students who attend Vulcan Middle School take Earth Science in 8th grade which meets the MMC requirement for a third science.
- 4 credits of High School Math including Algebra (which may be taken in 8th grade), Geometry and Algebra II. If Algebra II is completed prior to senior year, students may take a math-related class, such as any class at the Vocational Center, Personal Finance, or Accounting.
- 3 credits of Social Studies to include 1 credit of World History & Geography, 1 credit of US History & Geography, 1/2 credit of Civics, and 1/2 credit of Economics.
- 1 credit of Health & Physical Education.
- Credit in an Online Learning Experience - Most Technology courses including Digital Technologies (formerly Micro/Adv Micro), Multimedia, Tech Integration & Application and Michigan Virtual courses all can apply to this requirement
- 1 credit of Visual, Performing, or Applied Arts.
- 2 credits of the same world language (starting with the class of 2016). Students who attend Vulcan Middle School take Spanish in 8th grade which meets one credit of a world language.
